Jay Trusler is an owner operator gaffer with his own grip and lighting truck, providing thoughtful, efficient lighting for commercials, branded content, interviews and documentaries. He brings a cinematographer’s understanding of the image to the craft of lighting.

Primarily working in Vancouver and the Sea to Sky.
ABOUT JAY
Shaping the light.
As a cinematographer, I always looked to the light first, whether working with changing conditions outdoors or shaping an interior scene. After more than 15 years as a cinematographer and, at times, a director, I made the move to specialise in my true passion: lighting for film.
I love working with a DP to bring their vision to life. Having been in that role, I know the value of someone you can trust to take care of the lighting while you focus on the camera and the director.
THE TRUCK PACKAGE
Built for the shoot.
Jay’s truck carries a comprehensive inventory of professional film lighting and grip equipment, designed for small to medium-sized productions that need to stay agile and well equipped. LED fixtures and industry-standard grip give DPs and producers practical options for the look and budget, with the tools on hand to keep work moving efficiently on set.
Choose the base grip kit with lighting à la carte, or book the complete equipment package. Jay brings together the grip and lighting crew to suit the shoot.

The truck and a custom 1 ton grip package. Add lighting fixtures and accessories to suit the shoot.

Everything on the truck

The truck and everything in the equipment inventory at one daily rate.

Jay draws on a longstanding network of trusted grip and lighting professionals to bring together the right mix of skills and experience for each shoot.
All rates in CAD. Both equipment options include the truck. Labour is separate. Mileage applies outside Vancouver and the Sea to Sky.
